Queen Latifah and Dennis Quaid star in this beloved tale based on the New York Times best-selling book by Kate DiCamillo. When 12-year-old Rob Horton (Christian Convery) discovers a caged tiger in the woods, his imagination runs wild and life begins to change in the most unexpected ways. With the help of a wise and mysterious maid, Willie May (Queen Latifah), and the stubborn new girl in school (Madalen Mills), he navigates through childhood memories, heartache, and wondrous adventures in this heartwarming adaptation.

The following is a message from the cast and the author of the original book thanking educators:

Please note: Queen Latifah has recently acknowledged that she has a female partner and that they have together adopted a son. Additionally, there are several uses of the word d--n in this film. Since this is a conservative, family-friendly blog, I feel it is my responsibility to disclose this as you decide whether or not you think this might be a good fit for your family.

This film could be a good fit for those hoping to open the eyes of their children to the realities that surround us. This can open up children to discussion to know how to reach others in their community. Both to the underprivileged and the privileged. Although, my kids were completely lost with the symbolism implied in this film most likely because of the ministry we are involved with. They see the issues addressed here in the lives of the people we deal with. They don't need a book or a movie to help them understand that some kids (and adults) struggle with hallucinations to help them cope with childhood trauma.

Others may enjoy this film but I personally prefer movies with a hint of comedic relief which I couldn't find in this movie.
