Farmhouse Devotions {Book Review}

Farmhouse Devotions by Cheryl Schuermann is the book you didn't know your homestead needed. When I attended the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers' Conference earlier this year, I was overwhelmed with the various genres presented in the bookstore. Yes, Christian, but not all relatable—at least not to me. Christian murder mystery and Christian romance are not my go-to in this season of my life. This is the moment when I am in the thick of it—homeschooling, homesteading, and homemaking. This is my world and though some moms read in those genres to escape reality, I choose to embrace it. I have a running list of what I plan to do when I "retire" from homeschooling and maybe those genres will make the list, but for now, I am drawn to non-fiction helps and how-to books to better our homestead. What I had not yet found (or knew I needed) was a devotional that was relatable and relevant for the homesteader. When I saw this at the conference, I knew I had to have it. Now that I've read it, I absolutely have to share it with you!

The layout is beautiful. Sprinkled with an occasional illustration from the author's husband, this devotional begins with a Bible verse, continues with a relatable story from the farmhouse or farm, and concludes with a concise prayer.

The author's writing style is engaging and inspiring. She draws you in with her imagery. You feel like you are there on the farm, full of beauty, wonder, and peace.

The author gives you a glimpse into her world, inviting you in. Even if you do not have a homestead or a farm, this book is captivating, showing you how to see God's glory in the ordinary. Anyone who picks up this book will be blessed by the biblical truths presented in these pages. This book helps us to learn that we can see, experience, and trust God in the seemingly mundane and ordinary moments of life. Seeing how the author was able to see God's glory on the farm can help anyone see God in whatever situation they are in. The scriptures are encouraging, the life lessons practical, and the stories encouraging. I highly encourage you to pick up your copy of award-winning Farmhouse Devotions today!
