Most (not all) of the opportunities listed here are geared toward Christian homeschool graduates looking for a rewarding job/internship that offers a small stipend, food, and housing in addition to a rewarding opportunity to explore a trade or ministry opportunity.
With so many opportunities out there, college is not the only route homeschool graduates are pursuing. Real-life hands-on opportunities exist and are an incredible option for kids still unsure about which direction they want to take. Though these opportunities do not lock your child into a specific career path as college might, they can be a positive step in the right direction.
When it comes to post-homeschooling plans, we as homeschooling parents should lovingly guide, not command. The homeschoolers whom we taught to read and do their math facts are now adults—ready to make their own decisions.
Unless a child has severe medical, mental, or physical delays, more harm can enter our families if we require our children to take specific paths in their higher education or career choices at this stage in their lives. At this point, we are here to guide, direct, and give advice—when asked. This can be a scary time for homeschooler and homeschooling parent alike, but it is beautiful. This is the time to give them the chance and opportunity to use the skills they have gained under our care in practical situations, even if they experience a bit of heartbreak, disappointment, or discouragement. Yet when the wins come, they are their wins, their successes!
One way to point them to success is by sharing the following opportunities available this summer with them. Encourage them to pray about whether or not one of them might be beneficial to them, right now, in this season of their lives.
✅ Ridgecrest Conference Center (Black Mountain, NC)
Join their Summer Staff and become part of a passionate team committed to our mission of Impacting Lives for God’s Glory. From May through August, you'll have the unique opportunity to serve guests from around the world. ✅ Camp Cherith of Western NY (Hunt, NY)
How would you like a summer job that is not only fun but also lets you enjoy the great outdoors while being with an amazing group of staff members who are making an eternal difference in the lives of campers and each other? There are many opportunities for men and women to serve on our staff. We are seeking energetic and enthusiastic college-age students to serve as cabin counselors, lifeguards, and activity leaders.
✅ Summit Ministries (Manitou Springs, CO)
Through a variety of summer internships, Summit interns have the opportunity to further their careers, work alongside experts in their fields, and receive mentoring and professional development throughout the whole process. The projects you’ll work on aren’t busywork; they’re videos, campaigns, and projects that are launching in a few days or months and have the chance to make a real impact on people’s lives.
✅ Pure Grass Farms (Troutville, VA)
Interns have a unique opportunity to learn basic construction and mechanical skills critical to cost effective operation of a farm. This includes basic carpentry skills and the opportunity to be a part of our “rainy day” equipment maintenance program for the many pieces of farm machinery and equipment. Pure Grass Farm LLC farms on over 110 acres in scenic Botetourt County, Virginia, just 5.6 miles from the Appalachian Trail and only a 25 minute drive to the thriving downtown area of Roanoke, Virginia. With hands-on, real-world experience throughout a growing season, learn the details of how they work with livestock to heal the land.
✅ Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (Charlotte, NC)
Continuing the lifelong work of Billy Graham, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association exists to support and extend the evangelistic calling and ministry of Franklin Graham by proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all we can by every effective means available to us and by equipping the church and others to do the same. This internship is intended for those attending or planning to attend college.
✅ Samaritan's Purse Global Summer (Boone, NC)
At Samaritan's Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all they do. You will start each day with a time of devotions and prayer, hear from members of our staff, both from IHQ and our global offices, as well as special guest speakers who will encourage you in God's word. Then, join together to pray for one another and for staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. This is a paid position.
✅ REACH International Internships (Indianapolis, IN)
As God calls and sends people from everywhere to everywhere, will you become a part of that story? Joining a REACH internship team will connect you with like-minded young adults, open your eyes to the beauty of the global nature of Christianity, and give you a broader perspective of yourself, other cultures and God.
