Skill Sharpeners: Geography: Grade 2 (Timberdoodle Review)

Does geography tend to get left out of your homeschooling? Sometimes I assume we have gone over certain concepts, only to find that repetition makes perfect. Reviewing basic geography concepts is always a great idea and the  Skill Sharpeners: Geography: Grade 2  which is part of the  Timberdoodle Second Grade Kit  has been working well to achieve this in our homeschool.  This homeschool resource is filled with over a hundred pages of geography activities that include the following: Reading Selections Vocabulary Visual Literacy What I Learned Hands-on Activities Use as a stand alone geography course or in addition to your current course load. My favorite aspect of this book are the hands-on activities. With young active boys in the home I am always eagerly seeking out hands-on curriculum for every single subject. From science to math to reading, and, yes, even geography, my boys are active and need the cutting, pasting, and tactile actions to help them to ...

Daily 6-Trait Writing: Grade 1 (Timberdoodle Review)

There is a point in learning when it just seems to click. I am at that point with my youngest which thrills my heart as a home educator. As the youngest of five, I have always included him in the lessons but this is the one year where he is eager to have work of his own that (in his mind) matches the level of his older siblings.  Daily 6-Trait Writing Grade 1  part of Timberdoodle's First Grade Kit  mimics a book that his older brother is currently working through. They each have their own book geared toward their own levels. In the front of the book, you find a scoring rubric, based on the six traits writing model to assess your student's writing. This is the perfect model for parents hesitant about grading or scoring their student's writing material, even in other subjects. This works as an excellent framework, or foundation, in a child's writing. The six traits include: 1. Ideas 2. Organization 3. Word Choice 4. Sentence Fluency 5. Voice 6. Conventions ...

Daily 6-Trait Writing: Grade 2 (Timberdoodle Review)

Is writing a chore in your homeschool? Every age and every stage certainly has its struggles so why not add in writing in a quick, simple, and non-evasive way. In only a few minutes a day, I have been using the  Daily 6-Trait Writing Grade 2  as part of our routine. This workbook is part of Timberdoodle's Second Grade Kit . What I love about this workbook is that it is all-in-one. Within one single book you have the worksheets needed for your child, the scope and sequence, weekly lesson plans, four worksheets per week, writing prompts, assessments, and answer keys. Everything is included to teach your second grader how to write—all in a fun way.  It's all there. You do not need to be a writer to effectively teach your child. This resource is simply open-and-go. Even if you are a writer, teaching a child to write is a completely different ballgame—especially when dealing with certain learning challenges. This book presents age-appropriate writing activities, sequentially, ...

Talking About Depression

Knowing that we do not need to face depression alone is a true comfort. I address several questions homeschool moms may face in Episode 56 of  The Hey, Mama! Homeschool Show —“ Why Am I Depressed and How Do I Cope? ” Listen today to explore what could be causing depression, what you can do about it, and where in God’s Word to find help!

2024 Homeschool Conventions

Beginning as early as February 2024, homeschool conventions for the year have begun. Wondering if there is a homeschool convention in your state, or within a day's drive? Check out the list below and check back often for updates as events continue to be added to the 2024 calendar year. As of now,  Missouri is the winner of the state hosting the most conventions in 2024 with a whopping FIVE CONVENTIONS!   Do you attend homeschool conventions? I have gone as a speaker, attendee, volunteer, and vendor. Connecting with other homeschoolers (in-person) is life-changing, and I highly recommend attending either by yourself or as a family. If you have yet to attend a homeschool convention, 2024 should be your year! --------------------------------------------------------- Alaska APHEA Homeschool Convention April 12–13, 2024 Anchorage, Alaska    Arizona AFHE Arizona Home Education Convention July 12–13, 2024 Phoenix, Arizona California Great Homeschool Convention/California Ju...
