Five shining stars! Heroes of the Bible Treasury is by far my favorite book that I have personally read by The Adventure Bible company. I have yet to be disappointed with their, "I Can Read!" series and was looking forward to this book since it includes six in one. The stories are a good length. This book is only a few pages short of two hundred, each story about thirty pages long. Even though it might seem quite lengthy for a child who is learning to read, it isn't, each story is the perfect and the child feels quite accomplished when they complete each story. My second grader was thrilled when this book arrived in the mail and immediately began thumbing through the pages, enjoying the pictures and looking to see which Bible stories it contained. In the Bible, we see more than one occasion where false Gods are proven to be powerless. Elijah, on Mount Caramel, proved to the people that Baal had no power, (1 Kings 18). The people called out to their god, with a loud voice. They were determined that their god would answer them, so much so, that they cut themselves and performed rituals associated with worshiping their god. Baal did not answer them, instead, the God of Israel answered Elijah's prayer by fire. "When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God ," (1 Kings 18:39). Counting Blessings is an adorable, soft, padded, board book by Eileen Spinelli. When this first arrived in the mail, even though this is meant for my youngest son who is not year a year old, my eight year old immediately wanted to read it. He read through it with ease, enjoying the colorful illustrations and rhyme! What I appreciate about this story is that it is not simply a counting book. Even though in the beginning pages the author goes through and counts the bunny's blessings 1 -10, the story continues on and shares thankfulness for each of the seasons. She ends with the season of fall which makes this book perfect for Thanksgiving. This book is great any time of year but would be a wonderful gift for a young child at Thanksgiving time! The size of the book is a nice large size and the illustrations are bright and colorful, perfect for little ones. Bickering, quarrelling and competition. I would love to say that we don’t deal with these issues in our homeschool – but I would be lying. My kids have always been a fan of activity books. Even my older ones still enjoy the silly tic-tac-toe games and connect the dot puzzles found on the placemats at family-friendly restaurants. When they were younger, if I wasn't sure that the restaurant would provide crayons and activities for the little ones, I would stock up on sticker and coloring books. It certainly made the wait for the food a little more tolerable! One of my favorite sticker and activity books out there is, The Beginner's Bible Series. My kids have enjoyed the Easter one and now we have received The Beginner's Bible: A Christmas Celebration . One of my favorite times in Sunday School growing up was "graduating" from the second grade class. At the end of the year, each student was presented with their very own Bible. I coveted this Bible and it was probably the first Bible I ever read on my own. There is something special about your first Bible as a child. Since both of my older boys are at the age where they are able to read on their own, my husband and I have given them each their own Bible. As their parents, it is a special gift and we are proud to be the ones to give them their first Bibles!
