Milton Hershey Unit Study (Review)

My ten year old has been enjoying his time reading the book,  Milton Hershey: More Than Chocolate by Janet and Geoff Benge  released by  YWAM Publishing . We also received the  study guide  to go along with the book.  Awhile back, my other son did one of the unit studies on Jim Elliot  also put out by YWAM Publishing. At that point, I had access to the digital versions of both the book and the study guide. I personally like to have hard copies of products and since I enjoyed this particular study so much I went ahead and purchased both the book and study guide a few years later. I actually had my son go through the book and study guide for a book report. My son loved it and enjoyed the study guide activities and the variety of activities presented. When we had first reviewed it, my kids were younger and not yet old enough to read the book on their own. At that point, I read it aloud and guided them through the study guide. Once my...

What a Rush!

We recently took a road trip. It was actually a missions trip. With five kids. Including a baby and a toddler. Oh, yes we did. You only live once, why not live on the edge? Ha. So the trek consisted of heading from Virginia to Mexico. We took the Gulf route on the way there but decided to take the Smoky Mountain route back.  Excellent choice.  Pigeon forge was beautiful! A bit tourist-y, but gorgeous. During our visit, we tried the new trend of indoor skydiving.  One of my kids informed me not too long ago that when he gets older he wants to be a sky diving instructor. Where did that come from? "Well," I said, "let's try indoor skydiving first so you can at least get a taste for what it feels like!" And, next month he is going on a plane ride through a homeschool field trip we have set up- so at least he can see if flying is something he actually does enjoy.  If he likes both then I guess we'll see what happens. He is o...

A Peek Ahead

Good things are in store for all of you Thrift Schooling readers! Keep your eyes peeled for some fun reviews, tips, recipes and highlights over the next few weeks. Our family just returned from a month long mission trip to Mexico and I look forward to sharing some experiences from our trip with you. On our way home we stopped for a brief moment in Pigeon Forge and had a chance to try indoor sky diving as family. It was pretty intense. Not only was the sky diving experience amazing, the Smoky Mountains certainly are a sight to behold in and of themselves. I had never visited that part of the country before and when the mountain range first came into view, I was blown away. Absolutely stunning. Pictures to come soon!
