We all want to know what happens after we die. In THE CASE FOR  HEAVEN, best-selling author and investigative journalist Lee Strobel explores the evidence for the afterlife in order to address man’s biggest fear: death. Inspired by his own brush with death, Strobel searches for answers to the most profound questions we all have, about heaven, hell, and near-death experiences. Featuring interviews with experts and skeptics, THE CASE FOR HEAVEN will challenge, encourage, and inspire as Strobel dares to probe the important question—If there is a heaven, can we prove it?  We are curious by nature, taking on big questions about heaven, hell, and the afterlife. The Case for Heaven invites you to carefully investigate the knowable and respond with faith to the unknown.

My Thoughts

My first encounter with the Lee Strobel series was Case for the Creator. I had recently become a Creationist after graduating from the public school system, which blatantly teaches evolution. I was in Bible school dating my now husband who introduced me to the audiobook. It was instrumental in solidifying what I was seeing in the Scriptures and I enjoyed the way he presented the material.

I was excited to check out this film since he seems pretty solid in what he believes. I thought the approach of this film was interesting. He began by saying that everyone is concerned about death in one way or another which is why they try to make a legacy for themselves. They want to make a difference or be known and remembered. He then explores the idea that there are things in this world that happen in the human brain that can't be explained by science. This led to interviews with people who had near-death experiences after sharing his own. The stories were interesting and I believe they absolutely could have happened. Although, I could easily see a skeptic watching this and not buying any of it. Some of the experiences were extremely similar to astral projection and other practices popular in witchcraft. Someone of that mindset wouldn't automatically assume that these people went to heaven and that heaven was real. I am glad that these experiences drew people to the Lord and I hope they lead many to Christ but ultimately, it is the Word of God that will do that. The Bible talks about overcoming by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. If someone has an experience with heaven and they are drawn to repentance to live for the Lord, then their sacrificial life here on earth is their testimony, not their near-death experience.

I appreciated that they touched on the reality of hell, and even one man's experience in hell because it is a reality due to free will. I was a bit confused though, as to why they included a former Christian who now denies hell because he can't believe that a loving God would create such a place. I encountered this belief as a child before I was saved, over 30 years ago in New York. It is prevalent in California and other far-left areas of the US. If they included it to show that this is a belief Christians are falling prey to, then I agree it is important, but if it was included for the sake of inclusiveness then it could have been left out. The reason for its inclusion wasn't very clear.
