It's summertime! You know what that means? It means it is time to treat our kids to some fun in the sun — and water! I have to be completely honest with you. My kids were troopers during the pandemic. They trudged through and persevered throughout the whole thing. Some people think that nothing changed for homeschoolers but that is not entirely true. While it's true that homeschoolers were already doing their coursework from home before COVID-19 hit, it's also true that most homeschoolers filled their days with extracurricular activities. When those were taken away, it hit many homeschoolers — hard. One of the joys of homeschooling is that we can teach on our own schedule, freeing up the rest of the day for activities outside of the home such as sports, music lessons, STEM, and other activities. I laugh when I think back to a time when I was caught up in the production of making Easter an extraordinary event. I loved acting and had a pretty decent part in my church play. So much so that for years afterwards people would bring it up in conversation, beginning with, "remember when . . .?" We would then reminisce. Years later, once I had kids, the productions became more and more involved. And intense. One year, a skit was preformed where half a dozen teens dressed up as demons drinking alcohol and doing drugs. When the clock struck midnight, January 1st, 1990, I was ten years old. I could not believe my parents let me stay up to ring in the new year, but I was glad they did!
