New Year, New Homeschool

I wouldn’t call it a New Year’s resolution per say, just a new way of approaching the school year. Since the homeschooling laws in my state are quite lax, I am able to school my children in a way that works for my family. After giving it a tremendous amount of prayer, thought and discussion with my husband we decided to begin our school year in January and have each child finish up the “grade” they are in by the end of November. This gives us the freedom to take plenty of breaks throughout the year whether it is because of a new baby, a family missions trip or to entertain expected (or unexpected) houseguests. (We had a man who was unicycling around the world unexpectedly stay with us this past year. True story!) We have found what we have been looking for in The Pencil Grip Inc .'s 24 pack of Magic Stix Washable Markers . These markers are the perfect fit for a homeschooling family such as ours. I am thrilled to tell you about our experience with them! Normally, I do not have a favorable impression of markers for several reasons. For one, as a kid, I remember markers having such a strong smell that it would give me a headache. I know some kids enjoyed the scents but it certainly was not for me. And to be honest, if I had markers like that in my house today, my kids would probably stick them up their nose or something. Another reason I have a distaste for markers is the drying out factor.
