The Unbreakable Boy (Review and TWO Giveaways)

In theaters on February 21, 2025, this film surprised me. This true story left me laughing, crying, and laughing some more. The humor interwoven through this film is perfect for toning down the seriousness of the issues addressed. This movie is real, down-to-earth, and inspirational.

Most of us know someone who is autistic, whether from when we were growing up, in our family now, in our church, or the child of a friend. We all know that parents with children who are autistic have unique challenges that those with neurotypical children will never fully understand. The ins and outs of these parents' days are challenging as they learn to navigate the unexpected—and somehow, they do it!

What I have heard from parents all across the board, from those with high-functioning to non-verbal children on the spectrum, is that their child has taught them so much. Every single one of them. God used these challenges in their lives to change them, as we see so beautifully demonstrated in this film.

When we find out something is wrong with us, our spouse, or a child, our natural inclination is to try to fix them—but what if God is allowing the situation to fix us? To fix our eyes on Him? God's grace is sufficient even in the pain and frustration, and this movie is a beautiful reminder that even if life does not turn out how we hoped and dreamed, it can still be a wonderful life!

As a true story, several themes are presented that some parents might find concerning, so use your best judgment when watching this film. The couple has the child out of wedlock, drunkenness is shown, and due to some language, I would not recommend this for children twelve and under. I do recommend this for teens if you are looking to teach them about the redemptive love of the Lord, second chances, and hope for the future when sin has made things a mess.

This movie was better than I anticipated, and I definitely recommend it!

The Pencil Grip Inc. {Review}

We have found what we have been looking for in The Pencil Grip Inc .'s 24 pack of Magic Stix Washable Markers . These markers are the perfect fit for a homeschooling family such as ours. I am thrilled to tell you about our experience with them! Normally, I do not have a favorable impression of markers for several reasons. For one, as a kid, I remember markers having such a strong smell that it would give me a headache. I know some kids enjoyed the scents but it certainly was not for me. And to be honest, if I had markers like that in my house today, my kids would probably stick them up their nose or something. Another reason I have a distaste for markers is the drying out factor. As a parent of many children this is super frustrating.
