Floats McGoats (A Timberdoodle Review)

Floats McGoats, part of Timberdoodle's Sixth Grade Curriculum Kit, is a great gift for the holidays or an upcoming birthday in your family. Fun for the whole family, this strategic game keeps you on your toes while trying to rescue the most goats from a terrible shipwreck! Strategy games are a favorite in our home. After we cracked this game open for the first time, my youngest children were chanting in unison, "Again, again!"

This game is a classic example of one of those games that you don't know how much you are going to love until you give it a go. Whether it is the challenge, the strategic maneuvers, or the quality time with family or friends, this game absolutely delivers.

The colors of the goats are uniquely satisfying, and the quality of the pieces are superb in comparison to other games we have on our shelves. After adding several Timberdoodle games to our homeschool collection, I have found these games (and their boxes) to be of higher quality than many others, which makes them worth investing in.

The rules are simple once you play a few rounds. One of my kids got the knack of it before me and was helping everyone play their first time around. I loved seeing his enthusiasm and the leadership he took to help his younger sibling (and even me!) learn how to play the game. What means the most to me is that he was able to get the hang of it from the instruction book and the instructional video. As a struggling reader, he gets overwhelmed, but when graphics, numbers, and diagrams are used in addition to simple written instructions, he is able to read what is there easily by filling in the gaps. This is a huge win for him. It helps him realize that he can do it. That he can learn, understand, and teach, without dyslexia getting the best of him. This game helps him build his confidence which makes this a great addition a homeschool with a student with special needs. Of course it is fun and entertaining for anyone, I just appreciate how it meets the needs of everyone.

We have found what we have been looking for in The Pencil Grip Inc .'s 24 pack of Magic Stix Washable Markers . These markers are the perfect fit for a homeschooling family such as ours. I am thrilled to tell you about our experience with them! Normally, I do not have a favorable impression of markers for several reasons. For one, as a kid, I remember markers having such a strong smell that it would give me a headache. I know some kids enjoyed the scents but it certainly was not for me. And to be honest, if I had markers like that in my house today, my kids would probably stick them up their nose or something. Another reason I have a distaste for markers is the drying out factor.
