Introducing the 2026 Grade 4 Timberdoodle Kit

Look what showed up on our doorstep! My fourth grader could not wait to open this box so he could see what is in store for him during the 2026–2027 homeschool year. Are you just as curious as he is? Come join me in my dining room and help me unpack this incredibly hands-on, educational kit.

At first glance, my son saw the puzzle globe, which caught his eye immediately. That is definitely going to be his first project. He also noticed that most of what came in the kit were activities. Games. Puzzles. Engaging projects. Even the math manipulatives are something he is looking forward to. He has been used to doing math strictly online, so I was not quite sure how he would do with the switch to a more tactile approach in that subject—but it is needed. Though he is generally strong in math, his division needs work. Implementing the Math-U-See Delta program this year will be perfect.

What did I do? I customized the elite package. I appreciated the bare bones, but I also knew what I wanted my fourth grader to learn this year. His basic anatomy knowledge was lacking, so I opted to use Apologia's Anatomy course instead of what came in the premade package. I also knew where he was in math, reading, and spelling, and customized the kit accordingly.

As he was pulling the materials out of the box, he kept on saying, "I can't believe this is SCHOOL!" He is thrilled to "have to" create comics, work on soapstone carving, and create a Snoopy camping scene, "for school."

Timberdoodle also has an online scheduler where all of these courses were entered. He will now be able to go through and see which activities need to be completed each day, with the scheduler marking his progress. He has taken a peek at this and is excited to have a little more freedom. Of course, I plan to work with him on the core subjects, but he is eager to work through the activities and projects on his own.

This year, I plan to walk you through the kit, so you can have an inside peek at how well these work for a hands-on learner. The first key is the scheduler. The next key is to spread the subjects out. Rather than having every subject, every single day for five days a week, he will work through the projects and subjects in an organized fashion so he completes all of the subjects by the end of the year.
