Hide and Goat Seek Deluxe (A Timberdoodle Review)

If you are looking for a gift for a preschooler, Hide and Goat Seek Deluxe is a preschool puzzle game lending to hours of fun. Created for learners ages three through seven, this game challenges your preschooler to try and outsmart the wolf—can she do it? With seven goats and one wolf, children attempt to hide the goats—protecting them from the big, bad wolf. Using common hiding places that your preschooler might use in her own game of hide-and-seek, along with a couple of not-so-traditional options (such as a grandfather clock), your child will be able to relate her own experiences to this game when trying to figure out the best strategy.

Most of the strategy games that I share with you are for older children to help with their problem-solving skills, and this game is no different in that aspect. It definitely helps children work on problem-solving. The difference? It is presented in a way that preschoolers will understand. Not only are the instructions easy to follow, but the challenges are challenging enough to cause a preschooler to stop and think before moving on. Once the challenge is solved, it is a joy to watch the excitement on your child's face when she realizes that she succeeded in a challenge, causing her to want to move on to the more involved challenges.

Picture Book Included

Before introducing your child to the characters in the game, flip through the included picture book together! No reading is required. Children can verbally share what is seen on each page, or you, the parent, can dictate what is happening in the pictures. Allow your child to become familiar with the characters, the pieces, and the story of The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats.

If your preschooler has yet to be introduced to this fairy tale, this picture book is a gentle introduction, with a slightly gentler ending than the Brothers Grimm's version. If your child already knows the original version, as my kids do, then it is fun for them to compare the two versions. I highly recommend introducing your preschooler to the story before playing the game—it makes it more engaging since she can relate the playing pieces to the characters in the book. This is a story that I have read to my kids time and time again from a fairy tale collection that we own, so adding this challenge game to our homeschool was a no-brainer.

Children can work through 48 challenges from Starter to Master. Young children will build their confidence in the early levels. Older children will be challenged and celebrate small wins throughout the harder levels.

This game helps young learners not only develop hand-eye coordination, but learn how to play independantly. If you have someone in your life looking to buy a gift for your child for the holidays or a birthday, recommend this one! Not only is it an educational win for the homeschool shelf, but it is study, durable, and easy to store for years to come!

Original 13 Colonies Fact Cards (Free Printable)

These Thirteen Colonies Fact Cards were created for my kids as we studied early American history. What a pivotal time in our history! Puritans seeking religious freedom, adventurers setting out for a new land, and those in debt hoping for a fresh start—a new life. From the first colony in Virginia, until all thirteen stars on the first American flag were represented, these cards are a perfect review for your homeschoolers. Use them to drill the first thirteen colonies so your child can recite them with ease, and have them dictate the information on the cards to help them remember a small fact about each colony. Feel free to print these out and have your children write facts that they learn about each colony on the back. Go ahead and laminate them, too!    Simply right-click, save, and print to use this resource in your homeschool as you study about the original thirteen colonies in America. Use the facts for dictation, copy work, or discussion in your home. Disclaimer: All co...

Truck-Themed Homeschool Chore Chart

  Use this truck-themed homeschool chore chart to keep your kids on track throughout the school week. With lessons, field trips, meals, and unexpected errands filling up your week, even the simplest chore chart can help your home run more smoothly. At times, kids are excited for the new opportunity to help out around the house and do it with joy. Other times they stomp toward the trash can with anything but a good attitude. Help keep attitudes in check by using stickers, smiley faces, or positive verbal reinforcement as your child completes each task on the chart. For the child who loves lists (and the mom) this is the perfect free printable to have on hand!   (Simply right-click, save, and print)

The Pencil Grip Inc. {Review}

We have found what we have been looking for in The Pencil Grip Inc .'s 24 pack of Magic Stix Washable Markers . These markers are the perfect fit for a homeschooling family such as ours. I am thrilled to tell you about our experience with them! Normally, I do not have a favorable impression of markers for several reasons. For one, as a kid, I remember markers having such a strong smell that it would give me a headache. I know some kids enjoyed the scents but it certainly was not for me. And to be honest, if I had markers like that in my house today, my kids would probably stick them up their nose or something. Another reason I have a distaste for markers is the drying out factor. As a parent of many children this is super frustrating. I finally teach the older ones to put the caps back on when they are done using their markers but then a younger one comes along and just doesn't understand. This then leads to the undue frustration of your child sitting down to...
